The question of movement has always been an integral part of Philippe HIQUILY’s work. In the lineage of mobiles and fountains he produced from the late 1950s, in 1963 he created a trio of monumental wind vanes, 12 meters high, installed on the beach of Elviria (Marbella, Spain), which he reinterpreted over 30 years later when he was commissioned by the city of Shanghai to create a monumental project for the 2010 World Expo. The success of this work led the artist to conceive, in the following year, a series of wind vanes, including the Hiver Wind Vane, which stood 5 meters high.<\/p>\n
Facing these mobile works, our relationship with sculpture is completely turned upside down. The aesthetic experience is no longer just about contemplation but, rather, participation. The artist invites us to play with the work, defying the “do not touch” directives established in cultural circles. By incorporating the Art For All collection alongside the Marathonian and the Epicurean, this wind vane is scaled down to a format of 18 cm in height while retaining the poetry and magic of its monumental counterpart, and more than ever, its playful essence.<\/p>\n
