“Introducing movement is creating life,” said Philippe Hiquily. The issue of movement has always been an integral part of his work. In the lineage of mobiles and fountains he produced from the late 1950s, in 1963, he created a trio of 12-meter-high monumental wind vanes installed on the beach of Elviria (Marbella, Spain), which he reinterpreted more than 30 years later when he was commissioned by the city of Shanghai to realize a monumental project for the 2010 World Expo. The success it enjoyed inspired the artist to conceive a series of wind vanes in the following year, including the “Girouette \u00e9tincellante” which stood 5 meters high. Facing these works, our relationship with sculpture is completely overturned. The aesthetic experience is no longer just about contemplation but participation as well. The artist invites us to play with the work, defying the “do not touch” directives established in cultural circles. By incorporating the Art For All collection alongside the Marathonienne and the Epicurienne, this Girouette is scaled down to a 18 cm height while retaining the poetry and magic of its monumental counterpart, and more than ever, its playful essence.<\/p>\n
