Brazilian Sebastião Salgado is a photojournalist and social documentary photographer. His fame stems from his black-and-white photographs that capture indigenous communities. His goal is to encourage the preservation of the environment and the coexistence of humanity with the nature that surrounds us.
Holding a doctorate from the University of Paris, he worked as an economist. It was during his travels in Africa that he discovered his passion for photography, which he made his main profession in 1973.
The Brazilian photographer has received numerous awards in Brazil, Monaco, France... The Japanese Art Association awarded him the "Praemium Imperiale" prize. As an environmental advocate, he transformed nearly 7,000 acres of the Amazon rainforest into a natural reserve.
