René Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist, famous for his enigmatic works that play with reality and illusion. His paintings, often populated with everyday objects placed in unusual contexts, challenged perception and invited reflection on the nature of reality. Magritte used simple yet deeply symbolic images, such as pipes, bowler hats, and clouds, to create scenes that were both familiar and strangely alienating. His intellectual and often humorous approach to surrealism left an indelible mark on 20th-century art.
